“Could You Be the One?” is the first single from acclaimed folk artist Jon Wilks’ forthcoming fifth solo album, set for release in October 2025. Best known for his work in the traditional folk world, this new track marks a shift towards his own songwriting, embracing a full-band sound with rich harmonies, layered instrumentation, and a warm, expansive feel.
The single, like the rest of the album, was produced by Joe Sartin—the wizzkid son of Jon’s late friend, Paul Sartin. Bringing together musicians Wilks has played with for years, the band features Jackie Oates, Jon Nice, and the long-awaited return of Richard Davies on bass, who first played alongside Jon in a band at 14 and hasn’t recorded with him since 2003. Adding to the energy is Laurence ‘Loz’ Hunt, whose work with Hack Poets Guild, The Wayward Band, and the Jim Moray Band (where he and Jon first met) brings a dynamic, driving rhythm.
The track is set for release on April 4th, ahead of a Kickstarter campaign supporting the album. It will receive its debut radio play on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show on April 2nd. The accompanying video was directed and edited by Jon’s son, Kai Wilks.
